For many years, the Shield & Diamond has arrived in Pike mailboxes free of charge. The burden of paying for this celebrated and coveted fraternity publication has historically landed squarely on the shoulders of undergraduates. With the rising cost of postage and printing, Pi Kappa Alpha is finding it increasingly difficult to pay for the Shield & Diamond without cutting services to undergraduates. In order to maintain Pike's prominence on college campuses, Pike must not cut services to chapters – instead it must increase them.

Pike is built on a foundation of successful, loyal brothers - perhaps more so than any other fraternity in the Greek world. It is only logical, then, that the fraternity relies on the strength of our alumni brotherhood to help cover the costs for alumni services and to help the Pike make important and valuable communications enhancements.

The Pike Loyal Order is modeled after successful programs offered by other large national fraternities and sororities. It allows an alumnus using unrestricted dollars to assist in funding programs specifically for our alumni, and programs with a strong alumni focus, such as the Shield & Diamond.

The Pike Loyal Order program will provide needed funds to endow the Shield & Diamond and free up funds to support our undergraduate chapters. Using actuarial tables, part of the one-time membership fee will be set aside to fund a Shield & Diamond subscription until the member's death. In addition, it also satisfies a real desire on the part of our alumni to have something distinctive to show their loyalty such as lapel pins, cuff links and other upscale merchandise.

All members of the former International Alumni Association are automatically enrolled as charter members of the Pike Loyal Order.

There are exclusive benefits to membership, including a lifetime subscription to the Shield & Diamond. Pike Loyal Order members also receive a lapel pin, a wallet card, and discounts at a variety of companies including hotels, car rentals, and travel, in addition to many other benefits. The real value of this commitment of loyalty, however, is the lasting pride of knowing that Pike Loyal Order members will help ensure that Pi Kappa Alpha continues to be the strongest of fraternities, rich in heritage and rich in uncompromising brotherhood.
